THQ today announced that the hugely anticipated sequel to 2010’s multiple Interactive Achievement Award finalist, Metro 2033, is scheduled for release in Calendar 2012, for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Windows PC.
Metro: Last Light will immerse the player in the haunting, desolate ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow, one of the most richly detailed, and beautifully realised gaming worlds of modern times. Developer 4A Games will deliver a terrifying, atmospheric single-player adventure that fuses thrilling combat with exploration and survival horror to create a unique, memorable experience.

“We believe that Metro 2033 was a flawed masterpiece,” said Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games, THQ. “It was a beautiful, original game that didn’t get the marketing support it needed. We won’t make that mistake with Metro: Last Light. This game improves on the original in every way – it will have more polish, deeper and more sophisticated gameplay, and satisfyingly visceral combat, without losing what our fans loved about the original. Metro: Last Light is another artful piece of game development from an Eastern European studio that will thrill and terrify anyone looking for a more cerebral experience than your typical first person shooter.”

Metro: Last Light pitches the player into the midst of a desperate civil war for control over a doomsday device that threatens to destroy humanity forever. The epic single-player campaign and unique multiplayer experience will benefit from the extraordinary lighting, physics and destruction made possible by Metro: Last Light’s bespoke 4A Engine technology.

In the most recent investors conference, publisher THQ has officially confirmed that the post-apocalyptic first-person shooter will be called Metro 2033: Last Light (originally the game was announced as the Metro in 2034, from the novel with the same name written by Dmitry Glukhovsky).

Although no details were offered about the new title, Danny Bilson – THQ vice president – said earlier this year that Metro: Last Light will solve some gameplay problems from Metro 2033 and will benefit of a more aggressive promote than its predecessor, the marketing campaign will begin at E3 2011.

Of Orcs and Men

Of Orcs and Men is a great role-playing game, jointly developed for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC by Cyanide Studios (Concept and Production) and Spiders (Realization and Development). These first images give an early preview into a brutal world at war, where the Empire of Men’s oppressive threat looms over the territories of the Orcs and the Goblins. Goblins are systematically persecuted and slaughtered, while Orcs not killed in battle are captured and enslaved.

Of Orcs and Men first puts you into the role of an elite Orc soldier from the legendary legion of Bloodjaws, a league of warriors deeply involved in the war opposing the Orcs and Goblins on one side to their persecutors, Humankind. As a veteran warrior who has seen the most brutal of battles, you are appointed by the Orc commander to complete a mission that could change the course of the war: kill the one man responsible for all of this bloodshed, the one who has, for years, exhorted the human masses to loath and fight the green-skinned people: the Emperor himself.

A Goblin will soon join you to aid you in your mission… he is everything the Orc is not. But you find that this works to your advantage as you fight on the battleground and off. Making advantage of their natural traits, they have their own skill trees you will develop. While the Orc focuses on power, reflecting his incredible strength, the Goblin will benefit from darker powers and stealth abilities, making him the perfect assassin.

From the filthy alleys at the foot of the Great Wall, to the depths of the Empire of Men, your two infiltrated heroes will face the greatest dangers through their epic quest. They will commune with the Wizards, fight the assassins and soldiers of the Empire of Men, and oppose the powerful Sisters of Laments.

As the world falls into chaos and you face a cruel and merciless humanity bent on eternal persecution of Orcs and Goblins, your unlikely duo will have one last chance to change the course of History and, hopefully, bringing peace between your peoples.

Of Orcs and Men is scheduled for a Spring 2012 release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.About Focus Home Interactive

Warhammer 40,000 news

THQ (NASDAQ:THQI) and Games Workshop (LSE:GAW.L) today announced a multi-year extension to their successful video game license agreement, extending THQ’s current exclusive rights to publish video games based on the popular Warhammer® 40,000® universe through titles across all relevant platforms including core, social and mobile rights.

Since entering the licensing agreement with Games Workshop, THQ has published several highly successful titles based on the intellectual property (IP), including the Warhammer® 40,000®: Dawn of War® real-time-strategy games for PC systems that have shipped 6.5 million units to date. Two fresh interpretations of the Warhammer 40,000 IP are currently in development by THQ: Warhammer® 40,000®: Space MarineTM- a third-person shooter for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and PC set to release later this year – and Warhammer® 40,000®: Dark MillenniumTM Online, a massively multiplayer online game exploring the deep fiction and myriad races of the IP.

“The complex, futuristic war-torn universe created by Games Workshop equipped THQ’s award-winning development teams with the material to create one of the most loved PC franchises – Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War,” said Brian Farrell, THQ President and CEO. “Our envisioning of the Warhammer 40,000 universe will continue to grow with top quality games across all platforms, including the upcoming launches of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online.”

“The impressive translation of the Warhammer 40,000 universe from the tabletop to the video game space by THQ certainly highlights the potential of our most successful intellectual property in the right hands,” said Mark Wells, Games Workshop CEO. “We know that the depth of the storylines, characters and imagery of the Warhammer 40,000 universepositions the IP to excel across many media platforms – and extending our agreement with THQ will help ensure that Warhammer 40,000 maintains a strong and growing presence in the video game space.”

Sumthing Else Music Works, Inc. proudly presents Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II The Complete Soundtrack featuring the original music scores from the sci-fi fantasy real-time strategy video game series Dawn of War II developed by award-winning Relic Entertainment, a division of THQ Inc. The 2-disc album includes the music from Dawn of War II, Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising and Dawn of War II: Retribution composed by virtual orchestra maestro Doyle W. Donehoo. The Complete Soundtrack is scheduled for release on May 24th, 2011 to retail outlets through Sumthing Else Music Works http://www.sumthing.com, and for digital download at http://www.sumthingdigital.com, Amazon MP3, iTunes and other digital music sites.

Dawn of War II is set in the dark and grim distant future of 40,000 AD, and the galaxy is aflame with endless war. Humanity is led by its immortal Emperor and defended by vast chapters of Space Marines, elite armored super-soldiers. Mankind, which is in a steady state of decay, is beset on all sides by hostile alien races, some of them bio-engineered for war, some on their own path of decay or growth. In the game, you are in charge of units attempting to stem the tide of alien hoards and corrupted Space Marines.

“It is a privilege to score for the vast Warhammer 40,000 universe with its stunning cinematic visuals and broad strokes of emotions,” says composer Doyle W. Donehoo. “This iconic franchise begs for huge themes and high drama, and that is what I have aspired to for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II.”

Dawn of War II won the 2010 Canadian Videogame Award for Best Audio and Dawn of War II – Chaos Rising is nominated for the 2011 Canadian Videogame Award for Best Audio. For more information on Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, please visit http://www.dawnofwar2.com.
