Where is the safest place in the world? Undoubtedly, many people would answer – home, but reality and history tell us that home can be the most dangerous place in the world. “Home is where the war is.”

Getting used to kill Germans, Japanese, Russians, even zombies and aliens in all kinds of shooting games, now Americans will get a chance of experiencing being slaughtered which will definitely raise their blood pressure. This is Homefront, an upcoming first-person shooter video game developed by Kaos Studios and published by THQ, which is scheduled to be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows PC on 8 March 2011.

The story of Homefront delves into the near future where North Korean leader Kim Jong-il dies and his son takes over. Against all expectations, Kim Jong-un is able to bring North Korea and South Korea together as one united country, forming the Korean People’s Army, and shortly thereafter wage war on Japan.

On the other hand, reduced to a mere shadow of the super power it once was, the United States became the target of the Greater Korean Republic – a united Korea under the rule of the North. American malls, suburbs and city streets are now battlegrounds as the civilian resistance fights for freedom.

With the U.S. Military scattered, no Government to be found and part of the country taken out by nuclear weapons, everyday people must fight to survive the incursion.

As to me, the logical scaffolding on which the story was built is inversely proportional to what was most likely to happen in real life. The idea of North Korea controlling an economy triple the size of American GDP in fifteen years isn’t any less likely than the idea of aliens taking over Russia after World War II.

Despite its confounding story setting, the game still refleats part of the reality in the world, for example, the economic downfall of the United States. Besides, the game world also features fictional physics, for example, EMP bombs are capable of destroying almost any infrastructure.

It is easy to guess that just like in many othe shooting games, the player is invited to join the American resistance – representing the good, “using guerrilla tactics, commandeering military vehicles, and utilizing advanced drone technology” to fight for the honor and safety of his country.

But its difference between other shooting games is its resistance to invaders. In order to highlight the agony brought by the invasion, Homefront will provide a greater focus on character, mood, and environmental detail than you might expect from a stern military shooter. Specifically speaking, much attention has been paid to depict how common people are tortured in wars. The portray of the dreafulness of wars also floods the game.
